Clubs attending are by invite only but anyone who has trained at Leicester Shootfighters is welcome to come along.

Leicester Shootfighter of the Year 2006...

It was a close call this time around, a lot of guys from the gym have had a good year. Myles Ewen did well, winning two club competitions, taking 2nd place at an amateur MMA tournament with an exciting bout and putting on a good performance at the SNGC grappling competition. Also at SNGC, Iwan Baxter tapped all his opponents on the way to a close points loss in the final; his jump in skill level along with his physical attributes has made him a serious force on the mat. Several other students have made notable progress in their game, Lewis James in particular springs to mind. However, it came down to a final call between Andre Winner and Courtney Rawle. Dre has had a storming year in the cage, building up an undefeated record against tough competition, showcasing formidable new grappling skills to compliment his sharp striking. But, Courtney has a full time job and a family yet with limited training has taken his game to a level where he's won two club competitions (both times defeating Dre in the process) including the end of year Openweight Grand Prix. It was a tough decision but these great performances, plus being a great guy it's a pleasure to have part of the team, mean this year's 2006 Leicester Shootfighter of the Year is Courtney Rawle. Congratulations bro.

- 7th January 2006

Leicester Shootfighters 2006 Open Weight Grand Prix

21 fighters competed in the end of year tournament held at the gym on Sunday 17th December 2006. With over three quarters of the students weighing in for the same category (-80kg) we decided to change the format to a straight knockout openweight tournament. After 20 exciting bouts the final four ranked as follows:

1st Courtney Rawle
2nd Andre Winner
3rd Lewis James
4th Luke Spencer

Lewis won one match by guillotine choke but lost another on decision after overtime to take 3rd in his division. Both guys fought really well and had entertaining fights, well done.

Leicester Shootfighter of the Year 2005...

A lot students deserve credit for things you've done at the club this year but this year I think it's a clear win for the guy who sums up the best of what our club represents. He has trained hard, constantly striving to develop and expand his game. Has made big gains and proved himself dominant in competition yet doesn't take advantage in training and is helpful to those he works with. Most of all he is a nice guy and a pleasure to coach.

This years winner is: James Frost

A very cool trophy awaits him at the gym.

- 16th December 2005

December 10th Submission League

We took another team to the Submission League in Birmingham this past weekend. Well done to all those who fought and thank you to the lads who came to show their support. Some mixed results but impressive performances by our lads and great day out!

James Frost once again won the -99kg with a great performance (and should of got fastest sub of the day award for his sweet guillotine). Dave Ives got screwed by an organisational mix up so got 2nd at -77kg. Andre Winner won both his fights and looked sharp but didn't carry on due to the same mix up. Sam and Courtney both won fights at -77kg as well. Paul Gannon got 3rd in the -66kg, winning three fights with nice subs, and Myles got 4th. Alex showed balls of steel stepping in to the heavyweights with only a few weeks of training. - 16th December 2005

Congrats to Judo Jim

Jim Wallhead defeated Paul Jenkins on December 3rd in Cardiff to take the House of Pain Welterweight MMA title. Well done mate, from all at LS. - 16th December 2005

2 Golds, 1 Silver, 3 Bronze

Our team of 8 fighters picked up 6 medals at the Submission League in Birmingham on October 2nd. Nathan Leverton and James Frost won the lightweight and light-heavyweight divisions. James Hasting came 2nd at middleweight. Paul Barton won his welterweight bracket and came 3rd overall losing on points in overtime to the winners. Iwan Baxter placed 3rd in the heavyweights and Myles Ewen took 3rd at lightweight. Ben and Wayne also won fights in the welterweight divsion. - 4th October 2005

"Nathan "Levo" Leverton has a common sense no nonsense approach to martial arts that is refreshing & exciting...Combined with his teaching skills he is exceptional. We should all learn from this man. If we don't it is our loss." - Steve Liddle, 2nd Dan Shukokai Karate, 1st Degree Kung Fu
